While visiting my parents this past weekend a plethora of unsettling memories were unlocked. Memories I was trying to forget – shield myself from for years, but the moment those memories unlocked I immediately ran away. I’m talking about sibling/family photos.
The moment I saw my mother bring out shirts that were green and white, I knew immediately what was happening. Even though St. Patrick’s Day is 15 days away, my mother (Mama Ang) decided since all 3 grandsons were in the same house, a “St. Paddy’s Day” photoshoot needed to happen with her and my dad.
My fiancee, Melissa, had no idea what she was in for. I immediately left the scene and focused on other “chores” that needed to be done while I eavesdropped and heard the common phrases my mom would say when I was a kid during photoshoots.
“Sit still.”
“Say cheese.”
“No, no, no, we’re not done yet!”
“Okay, none of these turned out. I’m sorry, but we need to take more.”
After 15 minutes of wrangling a 4 year old (Avery, my fiancee’s son), a 2 year old (Leo, my little sister’s son), and my 56 year old dad (Papa Jay), NONE of the photos turned out.
I told Melissa, welcome to my childhood.
Here are some childhood photos that still make me cringe to this day…
Valentine’s Day photos…. WHYYYY?? BTW, my fit is pretty cute not going to lie… (Alivia, Alizabeth, Alayna -me)
Day of Christmas photo… you can see my older sister, Alivia has officially hit her breaking point after being told to “open her eyes, look at the camera, and smile.”
The most cringeworthy photo of them all, including Papa Jay. We were on a hike for the 4th of July and this was the “genius pose” my mom came up with….
Disclaimer: I love my mom and these photos are great memories. Although taking the photos were stressful and may have caused a fear of taking photos, they’re fun to look at now. I am just happy that there are now grandkids who have taken our place in these photos and that my older sister now lives in Seattle.
